31 Days to Green Living day 2: Non-toxic cleaners for a healthy home

Kitchen collage
The above pictures are some of my favorite kitchens shown on blogs. To me, nothing conjures the sense of home like an inviting kitchen(can you tell I like white cabinets with a nod to vintage style?). Don’t these pictures give a sense of a clean, healthy home? Isn’t that what we all want for our homes to be? What if how you were cleaning made your home anything but…
I wanted to begin with one of the most critical changes (in my opinion) you can make towards living green. If you make only one change, I hope this is the one you do…
Changing how you clean your home has immediate impacts on you, your family’s, your pet’s health not to mention anyone who enters your home and it helps the planet!
Did you know the pollution inside our homes is worse than outside and we spend nearly 90 percent of our time indoors? What is polluting our homes? Potentially, anything we bring into it-including cleaners. We think of our home as our refuge, but what if it was making you sick? Chemicals in our homes can cause allergies & asthma not to mention the long term exposure-what can happen from all those years of being exposed to chemicals being built up in our bodies? Now certainly we cannot control what we are exposed to everywhere, but I at least have more peace of mind that I have reduced our exposure to harmful chemicals by using ALL non-toxic cleaning products in our home. Green cleaners have definitely become more mainstream than just a couple years ago, but my challenge has been finding the winning combination of a safe, yet effective product. I have tried pretty much most of them (including higher-end ones) and honestly was immediately converted to Shaklee’s Get Clean line(even beforeI became a distributor). Gather all your current products and read the labels, do the say “Danger”, “Poison” or contain chlorine bleach or ammonia, do you really want such dangerous stuff being in your home that is polluting the air you are breathing? There certainly are other alternatives that are safe effective and green.
I have done the leg work for you of experimenting with the green cleaners available out there. Shaklee’s really are the best I have used.
